| Further Information: Sarcophaga carnaria is one of the commonest flies often found on rotten flesh and faeces. Larvae mostly feed on Earthworms. The house fly (Musca domestica) is also a one of the commonest flies and similar to S. carnaria at a glance, but it is more greyish, slightly smaller and often found on food and trash in houses and streets. Both are potential vectors of disease. Sarcophaga carnaria is distributed in all Europe, from the U.K. and southern Europe, east to the Altai mountains and north to the Kola Peninsula. Many species of Sarcophago have been described, and can be told apart by microscopic examination. |
